FAQs
Why: to have a shared experience of worship, conversation, and play that will enable us to know and enjoy each other more.
When: October 20-22, 2023 | Friday dinner through Sunday morning worship
Where: Chanco on the James Retreat Center (just over an hour away)
What: time to be together as a church, making memories around meals, camp fires, games, and worship
Cost: The total cost is the sum of your room cost ($180) + meals/person ($50). Also, kids 4 and under are free! For example:
A family of 4 would cost $380
A family of 2 would cost $280
An individual would cost $230, or $140 if they wish to share a room
Rooms: All rooms are motel-style with in-suite bathrooms, with a combination of double and single beds. Most have two doubles, and some can sleep 5 people. Please contact Bill Moore if you have any particular requests.
Meals: Registration includes 5 meals (Friday dinner, 3 meals Saturday, and Sunday breakfast). Food will be prepared buffet-style by the camp and eaten in the large dining hall. The chef is able to make accommodations for food sensitivities/allergies with advance notice. We’re hoping that meal times will be great ways to get to know each other better!
Arrival on Friday: the camp is fully available for our use (Friday is a student holiday for HCPS). If enough people are interested we can make plans to do the high ropes course and/or boating on the river. Or, you can come down and simply enjoy the camp.
What is the capacity of the camp? We will be the only group in the main part of the camp, which includes 35 motel-style rooms.
Can I come for only part of the time? Probably. We hope to offer day-passes, but will not know the cost or exact time frame until August/September.
What activities does the camp offer? There are numerous walking trails and fields for games. High ropes and boating (non-motorized) may be available on Friday if there is sufficient interest. Of course, there will be camp fires.
What else will we be doing? The schedule will be designed to maximize relationships. Our worship times will be designed for all-ages, and we will participate in some spiritual practices together (prayer, reflection, etc.). We plan to have other smaller gatherings for subsets of the church.
What about activities for young children? At certain times we will have specific activities for kids so that parents can take part in the spiritual practices and other gatherings. However, most of the time families will remain together.
Anything particular middle and high school students? Stay tuned. We have not made a decision about this yet.
